Nearly half a million people are expected to watch the 2007 Sydney Christmas Parade, the biggest event of its kind ever mounted in Australia.
The inaugural November 25 parade, sponsored by The Sunday Telegraph and Channel Nine, is planned to become Sydney’s version of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York.
About 60 colourful floats will stretch from the CBD, Wynyard, down George Street to Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour. The park will then become Santa’s Village for the day, with live family entertainment until early evening.
High School marching bands, boys’ and girls’ drill teams, street performers, cartoon characters, sporting heroes, dreamtime stories, clowns and celebrities will join in the parade.
