When Santa gets done making his Christmas rounds he is likely to do what alot of Americans: tune his big screen to a big game. Traditionally sports on Christmas in America usually means an early college bowl game. But professional basketball could easily steal the holiday spotlight this year. For those who follow the NBA, look at what they just announced for Christmas this year:
Heat versus Lakers, on ABC — can it get any more made to order? The newly restaffed all-star squad in Miami against the league champions, playing for blood on the Day of Peace. LeBron and Koby, East versus West, Richer versus Richerer…well, you get the point.
Bulls versus Knicks, on ESPN — Both teams have been rebuilt with interesting new components and with a Christmas crowd at Madison Square Garden there are bound to be fireworks. It could be fun.
Celtics versus Magic, on ABC — Everyone wants to see the Big Guy on Christmas. No, we’re not talking about Santa, we’re talking about Shaq, playing for Boston. In this rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals the mood will be merry for sure.
Nuggets versus Thunder, on ESPN — For Western Conference afficionados the present most asked for is Carmelo Anthony versus Kevin Durant. Santa delivered this year, in primetime no less.
Trailblazers versus Warriors, on ESPN — The Christmas nightcap could not be a better study in contrasting styles: the run-and-gun of Golden State against the deadly ball-control pace of Portland.
Watch your intake of eggnog the night before, of course. Games begin at Noon Eastern, which could cut into Christmas morning glory out west. Of course, if Santa brings you a new DVR you’re set to make merry — and cheer later.
