Everything You Need For Your DIY Christmas Wreath

For those of you who are new to the world of DIY Christmas wreaths, let me start by saying that there are two main types. The first is a traditional Christmas wreath with pinecones and holly and the second is a more modern version that includes natural elements like berries, flower stems, leaves and pods. Both types of wreaths can be made without pine cones! I love both types and I have made them both for my home over the years.

The first thing you need to decide is whether or not you want your DIY Christmas wreath to include pinecones. If you do, choose only fresh looking cones with no signs of decay (they should be crispy on the outside and pliable in the middle).

Making your own Christmas wreath is a great way to save money and add a personal touch to your home.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Choose a base for your wreath. If you want to use pinecones, you’ll need a base that can hold them in place. You can use an existing wreath as a base, or buy a wooden ring or other base at the craft store and decorate it with ribbon or paint.

Decide how big you want your wreath to be. If you’re making one yourself, measure the diameter of the opening in your door or window frame (usually about 18 inches) and use this measurement as your guide when choosing how large to make it.

Choose your materials. You can use anything from twigs and branches to moss and dried flowers if they look good together! If you’re using fresh flowers, try using them sparingly so they don’t wilt too quickly after being hung up on display.

Hang some lights! String lights around the outside of your wreath for an extra festive touch!

To make a wreath, you’ll need some wire, floral wire and scissors. If you want to add pinecones, start with a base of twigs and then add the cones.

Once you have your base, wrap the floral wire around it in an attractive pattern. Then cut off excess wire and attach it to the back of your wreath form with more floral wire.

If you want to use real pinecones, pick ones that aren’t too big or too small. You don’t want them to be too heavy or they’ll weigh down the rest of your greenery. And if they’re too light, they’ll blow around in the wind and get tossed out of the wreath by accident.

You can also use artificial pinecones if you prefer — just make sure they look real enough! They come in all shapes and sizes these days, so it shouldn’t be hard to find one that looks authentic enough for your taste.

To add interest to your wreath, try mixing up different types of greenery as well as different sizes and textures of pinecones. Together with your choice of flowers or other decorative elements (such as bows), this will give your wreath a variety of textures that will make it look like something special!
